Our Story

I started Serendiva with a simple belief: Ceylon tea deserves to be experienced with the same care, beauty, and respect it receives at origin.

For me, tea has always been more than a drink. It is a ritual that slows time, brings people together, and carries the character of Sri Lanka in every cup. Serendiva was created to share that feeling with the world through refined Ceylon teas made for meaningful moments.

From estate-side discovery to Japan's premium tea market and a renewed return to Sri Lanka, Serendiva's journey has always been about presenting Ceylon tea with the care it deserves.

Before 2014

Estate roots

A connection to tea became lived experience.

Abdullah Nazeer's relationship with Ceylon tea began through family stories of Sri Lanka's estates. Years later, hands-on work at one of the world's first certified organic tea gardens turned those stories into conviction: tea was not just a drink, but a ritual of presence, care, and connection.

2014

Founded in Sri Lanka

Serendiva was founded to close a premium gap.

Serendiva began with a clear mission: elevate Ceylon tea for global audiences through better leaf quality, stricter curation, and refined presentation rooted in Sri Lankan heritage.

2015-2016

Japan market entry

Japan became the first proof of demand.

Through partnerships in Japan's discerning premium tea market, Serendiva established both physical and digital retail presence, learning how authentic Ceylon tea could become a meaningful gift and sensory experience abroad.

2016-2017

Colombo presence

The Sri Lankan foundation expanded.

Serendiva strengthened its local presence through Tea Board partnerships, Odel placements, tourist retail, and the opening of a Colombo 07 flagship store designed to express the brand's full tea experience.

2020-2023

Resilience period

The brand paused locally, but held its ground internationally.

During COVID-19 and Sri Lanka's economic crisis, local operations were paused. Serendiva protected its Japan presence while using the period to rethink the brand with greater focus and discipline.

2024 onwards

Renewed chapter

Serendiva returned with a sharper vision.

In 2024, Serendiva re-entered Sri Lanka with renewed focus on premium Ceylon teas, refined gifting, hospitality partnerships, and future Sri Lankan product categories shaped by quality, provenance, and presentation.
